To the Archery Australia community,<\/span><\/p>\n

National Volunteer Week provides a valuable opportunity to recognise and celebrate the dedication of the volunteers who underpin our sport at every level.<\/span><\/p>\n

Across the country, from local clubs to national events, volunteers give their time, knowledge, and energy to ensure that archery remains accessible, inclusive, and community-focused. Whether it\u2019s preparing ranges, mentoring new archers, maintaining equipment, or leading club activities, their efforts create the foundation upon which our sport thrives.<\/span><\/p>\n

At Hobart Archers, Life Member Russell Hoffman exemplifies this spirit. Most weekends, he can be found supporting new members and sharing his technical expertise\u2014knowledge shaped by decades of experience and generous mentorship. On 31 May, he will run a free session on arrow building for club members, continuing his commitment to education and community.<\/span><\/p>\n

Importantly, Russell is just one of many who embody the strength of archery\u2019s volunteer base. People like Phil O\u2019Halloran, who has served even longer than Russell; the late Bob Pope, who gave over 50 years of service and was still shooting at 90; and Stephen Potter, who continues to develop the infrastructure that supports club activities, all contribute to the legacy and future of the sport.<\/span><\/p>\n

Volunteers also play a critical role in the success of national initiatives\u2014supporting programs aimed at growing participation, improving inclusion, and strengthening community wellbeing. These outcomes are only possible thanks to the collective efforts of volunteers across Australia, in alignment with broader strategies like <\/span>Win Well<\/a> and <\/span>Play Well<\/a> and in partnership with the <\/span>Australian Sports Commission<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

This week, all members of the archery community are encouraged to thank a volunteer and share their stories through the interactive <\/span>Volunteer Map<\/a>. Additional resources are available on the National <\/span>Volunteer Week toolkit webpage<\/a> to help clubs and individuals acknowledge those who make the sport possible.<\/span><\/p>\n
